Lighting Designer
MATT SCOTT is one of Australia’s leading theatrical lighting designers with 29 years’ experience in the industry designing more than 300 productions for Theatre, Opera, Circus, Dance and Music Theatre. Based in Melbourne, Australia he has worked for almost all this country’s leading performing arts companies including Opera Australia, Melbourne Theatre Company, Sydney Theatre Company, Belvoir, Queensland Theatre, Bell Shakespeare, Victorian Opera, WA Opera, Opera Queensland, Black Swan State Theatre Company, La Boite and the Malthouse to name a few. His work has also been seen overseas with some notable productions touring to the USA, UK, Europe, New Zealand, and Japan. He has collaborated with a varied list of directors and choreographers including Simon Phillips, Michael Gow, Roger Hodgman, Kate Cherry, Annie-Lou Sarks, Sam Strong, Julian Meyrick, Aidan Fennessy, Peter Houghton, Pamela Rabe, Marion Potts, Peter Evans, Anthony Page, John Bell, Judy Davis, Gale Edwards, Stephen Page, Natalie Weir, Ma Cong, Francois Klaus, Nils Christie, Stephen Heathcote, Dean Bryant, and Wesley Enoch. Recent work includes Drizzle Boy for Queensland Theatre, Tick Tick Boom for Storeyboard Entertainment, Fun Home and The Heartbreak Choir for Melbourne Theatre Company and The Who’s Tommy for Victorian Opera. His work is regularly recognized both within the industry and in the media for its atmosphere, attention to detail and collaborative empathy. He has been nominated for many awards and is the recipient of two Helpmann Awards, a Green Room Award, and a Sydney Theatre Award. Since 2017 Matt has also been a lecturer in Lighting Design and Technology at University of Melbourne (Victorian College of the Arts) and at the National Institute of Circus Arts Australia.
